I often ask people why we don't do what we know is right.

Why do we eat the candy bar while on a diet when we know we shouldn't.
Why do we watch TV instead of doing the dishes, when we know doing the dishes would only take 15 mins at the most.

Alot of people talk of will power, I don't know what that is, just a made-up word.

I was recently stuck by an illness that made me realise (and I think only partly) why we don't do the things we should.

Its because they don't mean enough.

I give an example to people to show what I mean. First I ask their forgiveness for using this example, and then I ask them "If I said that if you don't stay on your diet for 30 days, you children would drop dead at you feet, would you stay on your diet?" The answer all of them give is that they would follow the diet exactly.

So what I'm saying is that even though we *think* (in this example) that losing weight is what we want, what we really want is that candy because losing weight doesnt mean enough to us.

This translates into other areas of your life also. Why don't I clean out the closet when I really want to do it?

Because it doesn't mean enough or as some people put it, it doesn't hurt enough, or mean enough to us to get off out buns and do it.

I'm doing this freeflow so my thoughts may be jumbled but I think I get my idea across..

~dan
